MODUS X, a part of DTEK Group, joined the Forbes Tech 2024 conference. The event was dedicated to new challenges in technology and cybersecurity, especially in the context of hybrid warfare. Yurii Shatylo, Head of Cybersecurity at MODUS X, made a presentation in which he shared the company's experience in countering modern cyber threats and spoke about the implementation of innovative approaches to cyber defense.

One of the main issues discussed was the sharp increase in the number of cyberattacks on Ukrainian companies. In 2023, MODUS X successfully repelled more than 27 million attack attempts, including DDoS attacks and attempts to hack DTEK's infrastructure. These figures indicate a high level of attacker activity throughout the year.

“The key goal of most attacks is to stop critical business processes or destabilize the energy system. In response to these challenges, we are implementing a proactive approach that allows us not only to respond to incidents but also to anticipate them,” said Yurii Shatylo.

Based on MODUS X's experience, Yurii Shatylo formulated practical advice for businesses and emphasized that effective preparation for cyberattacks must include three components: employee training, streamlined processes, and investment in new developments.

Special attention was paid to the human factor in cybersecurity. It was noted that MODUS X has implemented a comprehensive employee training program, which includes regular phishing campaigns, training, and testing. Employees who fail to complete training or pass cyber hygiene exams are temporarily restricted from accessing critical systems.

The speaker also emphasized that, in addition to training, companies should develop a clear algorithm of actions in the event of a cyberattack and be sure to test it in real conditions.

Special attention was paid to the threats associated with the use of artificial intelligence, in particular, deepfakes. MODUS X is actively working to counter such challenges. One of the key areas of this work is training employees to recognize the softphones that imitate the voice or appearance of real people. This is especially important for the top management of companies, as such threats are mostly aimed at senior executives.

The MODUS X team has completed testing and is working on launching a training program that includes test calls created using artificial intelligence.  The goal of the initiative is to teach employees to distinguish between real calls and phishing calls and to respond to such threats correctly. This allows not only to stay one step ahead of cybercriminals, but also enhances the overall security of the company.
